Outcomes

  • There will be advancement in the integration of Science Diplomacy Education and Training (SD-E&T) for both men and women, especially within the formal education, training sectors and systems towards Sustainable Development.
  • There will be an increase in innovative and diverse research related to SD-E&T and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in all African countries through strong involvement of African Ministries of Education, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Ministries of Science and Technology, Universities, and research support institutions and organizations.
  • Schools, universities and training centers (NGO training centers) will become important centers for the training of country science diplomats for absorption by African governments in to their diplomatic foreign offices.
  • There will be effective and continuous regional exchange of knowledge, skills, experience, expertise and best practices via effective ICT platforms and channels and through the building and strengthening of ASDPN national and regional networks for the advancement of Science Diplomacy towards Sustainable Development.
  • Civil society in all sub-regions in Africa will be effectively engaged in the development of Science Diplomacy Education and Training nationally and regionally especially in non formal and social learning contexts of all major groups as defined under Agenda 21 of the Earth Summit, that is Children, Youth, Women, the Scientific and Technology community, Non-Governmental Organizations, Workers, Trade Unions, Farmers, Indigenous Peoples and their Communities.
  • The public and private sector will increase its support and involvement in national and regional Science Diplomacy Education and Training (SD-E&T) initiatives and programmes in support of the overall sustainable development of the African continent, based on the 2015 agreed upon Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of African Union Agenda 2063.
  • Community involvement and participation in Science Diplomacy Education and Training (SD-E&T) will significantly increase through the support of the Africa Science Diplomacy and Policy Network, thus enhancing indigenous knowledge in Science Diplomacy and Sustainable Development towards building strong and Sustainable communities.
  • There will be increased capacity and opportunities for women and youths from all sub-regions in Africa to take leadership roles in the sustainable development of their countries and societies.
  • There will be an increase in networking and collaborative partnerships supporting and utilizing Science Diplomacy education and training for advancing sustainable development on the African continent, between all sub-regions, sectors and at multiple levels
  • There will be a range of practice-centered outcomes through critical, action-centered and applied approaches to Science Diplomacy education and training that strengthen engagement in Sustainable Development while upholding scientific best practices across Africa.
  • There will be strong monitoring, evaluation and reporting mechanisms in place for S-DE&T within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in each of the sub-regions of Africa
